7 tips to help you stand out in interviews

During an interview, we recommend mentioning certain characteristics or factors that make you unique, which could give you an advantage over to another candidate and help you get your dream job.

To help you prepare for your interviews, here are a few examples.

1. Athletic activities
   Whether you played sports when you were young, or continue to participate in athletic activities today, talking about it in the interview or putting it on your resumé could be advantageous. Not only because playing sports helps keep you healthy, but also because it shows that you’re passionate about your health and you’re able to make time in your schedule to follow your passion.
2. Training
   Taking training courses can give you an advantage because it demonstrates your intellectual curiosity and expands your horizons. Doing online training related to your area of study is even better, as it shows you’re keeping up to date in your industry. Also, working and taking courses at the same time shows good time management.
3. Volunteering
   Volunteering is a great way to give back and it’s also a good way to open up, learn about another workplace, grow your network and learn new things. Whether you lend a hand at a non-profit organization, sit on a board or participate in sporting events to support a cause, all volunteer opportunities are a great way to show you like to help and get involved.
4. Hobbies
   Taking time for yourself is important, so don’t hesitate to talk about your hobbies and interests in interviews. They can help you stand out, and give recruiters a chance to learn more about who you are.
5. Travel
   Backpacking, going on an international exchange, exploring a faraway place and taking a break from the ordinary are a chance to show that you’ve got guts. Plus, everyone knows that travelling teaches us a lot.
6. Scholarships
   Being awarded a scholarship is a sign of hard work and commitment, so if you’ve received one, mention it!
   
   Still in school? Make sure you apply for scholarships and bursaries. Not only will it provide financial help, but it could make a difference in getting a job in the future.
7. Languages
   Learning a new language is a great way to stand out from the crowd. The better your languages are, the better your advantage will be over other candidates.
